컨셉트 공개 이래 4년만에 드디어 공개되는 포르쉐 918 스파이더 양산형입니다. 컨셉트의 모습 그대로 나오다보니 외형적 신선함은 없지만, 사이버 포뮬러에서 튀어나온 듯한 최근 수퍼카들의 과한 외모에 비하면 포르쉐다운 멋이 잘 살아있습니다. 2인승 지붕 탈착 가능형 바디는 카본파이버 강화플라스틱 모노코크 구조로 되어 있습니다. 플러그인 하이브리드답게 한쪽에는 주유구, 한쪽에는 충전 포트가 달린 좌우대칭형 배치에 더불어 특이한 점으로는 뒷모습 범퍼 하단 자리에서 머플러를 찾아볼 수 없는데요, 리어 엔진 커버 위로 머플러가 바로 솟아오른 독특한 탑 파이프 형태입니다.
카레라 GT의 뒤를 잇는 918 스파이더는 플러그인 하이브리드 수퍼카로 V8 4.6리터 가솔린 엔진(616마력@8,700rpm)과 프런트, 리어 액슬에 한 대씩 놓이는 두 대의 전기 모터(290마력@6,500rpm)가 힘을 모아 도합 900마력, 93.5~130.5kg.m(기어 단수에 따라 다름) 토크를 내며, 7단 DCT를 통해 전달됩니다. 메인 엔진인 V8 4.6리터 엔진은 RS 스파이더 레이스 머신의 엔진을 기초로 한, 9,150rpm까지 오르는 고회전형 엔진으로, 리터장 출력이 132마력으로 카레라GT의 V10보다 더 강력하고, 616마력의 출력은 포르쉐 자연흡기 엔진 중 역대 최고 출력입니다. 충전이 필요한 배터리 팩은 312셀로 구성된 6.8kWh 용량의 리튬이온 배터리로, 독일 230V 전원으로 충전 시 완충에 4시간이 걸리며, DC 고속 충전기로는 25분이 걸리고, 7년 보장이 따라갑니다. 순수 전기차 주행 모드(E-파워)에서 0-100km/h 7초 미만, 최고시속 150km/h, 항속거리 16~31km까지 가능합니다. 모든 힘을 최대한 끌어모으는 레이스 하이브리드 모드에서는 0-100km/h 2.8ch, 0-200km/h 7.7초, 0-300km/h 22초, 최고시속 345km/h까지 낼 수 있으며, 플러그인 하이브리드 기준 연비는 30.3~33.3km/L에 달합니다.
이 컬러 옵션은 바이작(Weissach) 패키지로, 클래식한 레이스 데칼 필름 뿐만 아니라 35kg가 가벼워지는 경량 마그네슘 알로이 휠, 6점 시트벨트, 카본파이버 파츠 등을 포함합니다.
기본 가격은 845,000달러에서부터 시작하며, 바이작 패키지 선택 버전은 929,000달러부터 시작합니다. 이미 작년부터 사전계약을 받아 알려진 사실이기도 하지만 총 918대만 생산될 예정입니다.
